Just don't brag about "being awesome" or "beating the game" and you will be fine.Custom Mode is an unlockable mode in Dead Cells that allows the player to adjust runs in a multitude of ways. And, I'm getting to the point where I would be making it to HoTK on regular mode as well, but still not with all flask charges intact.

And now that I am able to consistently beat the game on 4 BC with Custom (still unlocking outfits), the lower BC levels are easy on regular mode. But am I still having a lot of fun with the game, when I otherwise would have stopped playing a long time ago? Yes. So, am I as good as someone who plays regular mode? No. I certainly would not lock to a specific build because I think that would burn me out pretty quickly (and I have seen many posts about game burnout from people who've done that). I don't disable items though because I like to retry items now and then just to see if I can make them work, and you never know what odd pairing actually ends up working well. Nothing worse than spending an hour to get to him and then dying in 10 seconds because you've barely practiced with him and you misread a move. Plus, I get way more practice on HoTK because I get to him more often.

I also take different paths each time so I learn all the biomes. Lo and behold, I got better at the overall game a lot faster, I am able to survive curses and get the 60-kill doors a lot more consistently now (several times per run), and if I find a fun set of items and am having a good run, it isn't always over if I make one dumb mistake. And I don't have much time to play, so it was really tiring to barely make it to Concierge because of the difficulty jump. I always play on Custom Mode with health potions unlocked because I found progress was way too slow if I always died on the earlier biomes, wasn't getting much practice on later biomes, and died quickly.
